Udi’s Gluten-Free Farmhouse White Bread Review
Best gluten-free bread ever!!! Why has Udi’s been hiding this? I found this loaf of goodness at the Safeway on Kauai in the freeze section of the bakery. I would have never thought to look there for bread. It was a complete accident. This particular Udi’s product line is not shown on their website. I usually check there to see what new gluten-free products they have and then go look for them in the grocery store.
This loaf of bread is the closest to regular bread that I’ve ever tasted. It’s tagline “Soft, Hearty and Just Plain Good,” is the best way to describe it. I first had it as toast with a smear of butter and cream cheese, oh so delicious! I really wish I had some cinnamon sugar to sprinkle on. I made a turkey sandwich using this bread with lettuce and a thin layer of cream cheese (we forgot to buy mayo- whoops!) and found the sandwich to be enjoyable. The bread fell apart a little bit, but they may have been the over stuffing of lettuce. The SO (who’s not gluten-free) says it was the best gluten-free bread he’s tasted.
This particular loaf does have a few holes in it, but nothing compared to other Udi’s loaves I had. The loaf is soft and holds together nicely. The crust is moist and pleasant to eat, not overly dry like some gluten-free breads. I have read that this bread can be found at Super Wal-Mart. Once I’m back to Colorado, I’ll be checking my Safeway, King Soopers and Super Wal-Mart to see if I can find my new favorite bread there.
