Maui Brick Oven is a gluten-free restaurant. This family owned and operated restaurant is serving up signature gourmet pizzas, pasta dishes, fish and chips and homemade desserts. No need to worry about cross contamination, every thing is made right there at the restaurant including the salad dressing and croutons.
While we were in Maui, we visited their flagship location and I indulged! Before going venturing out to the restaurant, I glanced over their online menu and didn’t get past the “Beer Battered Onion Rings.” I had to have and we were off. The Maui Brick Oven is located in the southern part of island and is owned by two chefs who have celiac disease. The service was excellent and the food was delicious.
We started out with an order of the Beer Battered Onion Rings that were very tasty, not too oily, generous serving size for two people and came with a unique dipping sauce. It was so amazing to order Onion Rings! Next up was the Wedge Salad that was an Iceberg lettuce wedge cut into quarters topped with cherry tomatoes, bacon crumbles and garlic croutons finished with a homemade Blue Cheese vinaigrette. Of course my first reaction when the salad hit the table was “Oh, I can’t have croutons,” but yes, yes I can! The homemade Blue Cheese vinaigrette was creamy and filled with blue cheese crumbles.
The Pizza! The pizza crust is not a gluten-free pizza crust trying to be a regular crust. This crust tastes more like a multi-grain bread, it was a good thickness and held together perfectly. It was absolutely delicious. They have gourmet pizzas as well as create your own. Now, the most awesome part about this pizza…..you can eat it cold the next day and it tastes wonderful! I have yet to come across a gluten-free pizza that I can say that about. This is a must try! (If you like cold pizza.)
We also ordered a side of the Homemade Mac and Cheese, which was my least favorite out of the four items we ordered, but still managed to clean the plate. It tasted like mac and cheese, but a little bland even with being very cheesy.
Overall, I highly recommend Maui Brick Oven, it’s a great place to eat out gluten-free with excellent and friendly service.
