Gluten-free dehydrated camping food is not easy to find locally. When I went back packing in Hawaii, I had to order gluten-free meals online and still found the selection to be limited. I found Good To-Go during my research for Hawaii, but I was bit last minute and the meals wouldn’t arrive in time to try. While packing up for my first solo-camping trip, I went to REI to find a few last minutes items and there hanging there on a side aisle, Good To-Go meals.
Good To-Go currently offers four meals (all gluten-free) including Classic Marinara with Penne, Thai Curry, Smoked Three Bean Chili and the Herbed Mushroom Risotto. All four meals can be purchased in a singe or double serving. I wish REI sold the single servings, but you can purchase right from the Good To-Go website and receive free shipping on orders over $75.00.
The Herbed Mushroom Risotto was extremely easy to make. Just add boiling water to the pouch, stir and reseal for 20 minutes. I found the risotto to be very filling. I thought the taste was delicious and would be amazing after a long day of hiking. The chewy mushrooms were tasty and gave a different texture to the risotto. The creamy rice had a nice balanced flavor of spices. Definitely a gourmet camping meal compared to my instant mashed potatoes and canned chicken I ate in Hawaii. I’m ordering the single serving of the other flavors now! I can’t wait to try them. What is most excellent, is these are gluten-free. Gourmet and gluten-free, where am I going next?
I contacted Good To-Go about their gluten-free policy. Here’s what they had to say “Our meals are certified gluten-free through a third party private lab we use, Katahdin Analytical. Their results show our meals have less than 20 parts per million of gluten. Currently, all our meals are gluten-free, so they are made in a gluten-free facility and have not touched non-gluten free equipment.”
Good To-Go was founded by Jennifer Scism, an accomplished chef, co-owner of Annisa restaurant located in Greenwich Village and adventurer. Located in Maine, Good To-Go wanted to give any adventurer a great tasting meal even when hiking through the wilderness.
