While visiting my parents in my home state of New Hampshire, a high school friend took me out to dinner. He knew I was gluten-free, but like most people he really didn’t know what that meant. When we arrived at the Canoe, I asked the hostess if they had a gluten-free menu. She stated they didn’t, but to let my server know and they can make suggestions on what they recommended. We ordered a couple margaritas on the rocks made with their own sour mix, completely gluten-free and I inquired about a few of the menu items to see if they were gluten-free. When she returned with our drinks, she let me know that both the shrimp cocktail sauce and hollandaise were gluten-free.  Yay! I didn’t have to keeping looking over the menu.

Reminder | As with any restaurant, cross contamination can always be an issue. Check with your restaurant to see what their practices are if you have concerns. It never hurts to ask. This is just my experience and how it affected me.

House Marmalade & Cocktail Sauce

These were the biggest shrimp! I don’t think I’ve had shrimp this big before. They were delicious dipped in both the cocktail sauce and orange marmalade. The orange marmalade was a new experience for me. It was tasty with the sweet citrus flavor, but I think I still prefer the cocktail sauce.

Lobster, Hollandaise, Asparagus

For my main course, I had the Filet Lobster Oscar with Hollandaise and Asparagus. This was my second time ordering surf-n-turf. And the lobster was delicious! Everything about this meal was delicious. The steak was tender and flavorful, the asparagus was steamed perfect with a slight crunch and plenty of sauce to finish the meal. Which I believe the most important quality in a dish with sauce. But gravy is a food group in my world…you can never have too much gravy.

Six days later, I never had any reaction to my meal. I would go back here with full confidence that my meal would be safe from gluten. The service was excellent, the ambience was inviting and the food was great.
