I’ve been needing to do a product review, so last night I pulled out all my products and placed them on the counter. The Birch Bender’s packaging totally stood out! It was the most fun packaging on my counter and being a designer – well, design wins every time. Now, can the packaging live up to the taste? That’s the real question. I decided to make waffles using my Cuisinart Classic Waffle Maker which will make a 6.5 inch waffle. Really glad I checked that. According to Birch Benders’ waffle directions, their recipe will make six to eight 4 inch waffle.
The mix is really easy to make. For the waffles, simply add water and oil into a bowl and mix well. Using about a 1/2 cup of batter per waffle, according to my waffle maker instructions, I was able to get five waffles doubling the waffle recipe. I have about a cup of mix left over. I’ll probably try making the pancakes next time.
How did they taste? Well, Delicious!!! I ate the waffles two ways, one smothered in maple syrup (slightly cold after the photoshoot – okay, really cold) and one just plain reheated in the toaster oven. Now, we all know how gluten-free bread like foods can get if they are cold. Ewww, right? The waffles were still yummy and delicious. The plain one out of the toaster oven had a slight nutty flavor from the hazelnut meal, but it was a nice taste and not overpowering. I personally loved it. One thing I did notice when cutting the waffle smothered in syrup is the waffle held together and didn’t get all crumbly or break apart. It was fabulous! I know the little make me so happy these days. Even the plain warm one, same thing. I could literally count the number of crumbs on my napkin. Five! I was so impressed. It was like eating an Eggo. I love eating my left over pancakes and waffles cold and plain. I know a bit weird and it’s so hard to find that GF. I think my search has ended 🙂
